Scary Stud of the Year 2008: Terrance Zdunich

Mr. November 2008, Terrance Zdunich, was recently crowned Scary Stud of the Year 2008. This gorgeous, artistic and tantalizingly down-to-earth gentleman will forever be etched in the horror film fan's memory as The Graverobber in the musical/goth extravaganza Repo! The Genetic Opera. He recently took 'the show on the road' in the Repo! Road Tour, all accross the USA, meeting fans (and probably some stalkers, too.) Terrance accepts his crowning of Sexiest Man in Horror of 2008 will all the grace and humilty you'd expect from a drug-dealing graverobber in a semi-post-apocalyptic world ruled by a capitalist elite. Re-meet Terrance!...

Terrance as the Graverobber

How does it feel to be Scary Stud of the year?

Feel? I am that button-eyed deer whose vacant expression never changes, whether galloping through a dewy meadow, or being eaten alive by a lion. If I could "feel", I wouldn't need this fake arm cast, nor your help lifting this sofa into the back of my van. Would you mind? That's right; all the way into the back there. Good. Gooooood.

Would you say this is the most rewarding experience of your life?

On your mother's life, yes.

You took REPO! on the road: how was that?

My rape van brings all the girls to the tour.
And they're like, "Why does your passenger-side door have no handles on the inside?"

Honestly, the Repo Road Tour was a blast. I visited 23 different cities in the course of 2-and-a-half months ("I'm a traveling man; one who moves; and catatonics are soooo easy to possess"). I met and mingled with REPO! fans all across the country, many of whom came dressed as REPO!'s characters. Since most of these characters began as drawings in my sketchbooks, it's pretty surreal to see them come to life, both on screen and in person. Especially the sexy female characters. They're not bad; I just drew them that way.

Pimp the DVD; What extras does it have on it?

Yes, REPO! The Genetic Opera is now available on DVD and Blu-ray, both online and in retail stores. The discs showcase most of the usual, fun, DVD-type features; but the real treat is the "subtitles" option: many of the song lyrics are so grossly (and comically!) incorrect, that a REPO! subtitles drinking game is inescapable. Now, I'm not saying that REPO!'s fans or its creatorsare alcoholics. I'm merely stating that if you didn't want the Jesus Juice, you wouldn't have hitchhiked to the Neverland Ranch.

Anything else you want to say/pimp?

I'm making my 1st ever convention appearance, Feb 20th-22nd, at New Jersey's Wicked Faire. A live REPO! shadow cast will be performing at this event, and I'll be there to introduce them, conduct a Q & A, sell some art prints (and some Zydrate), & basically hang out and party all weekend. So, come join me if you can. It should be a blast.

Also, I'm a contributing editor and illustrator for a new magazine hitting newsstands in late March called Fantastique. The magazine focuses on Fantasy, Sci-Fi, & Horror movies. It's the English language version of Europe's oldest (in print since 1969) and most esteemed genre periodical, L'Ecran Fantastique.

Lastly, I'll be illustrating a special feature on the upcoming DVD re-release of Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI: a comic book-styled animaticvoiced by actors from the 1986 filmof the original ending to writer/director Tom McLoughlin's screenplay. This alternate ending will feature Jason Voorhees's father. And since this ending was never filmed, my illustrations will be the only official representations of this horror icon's daddy. How cool is that?!
